BOI Fair 2011 impresses Honorary Consulate of Uganda
International exposure hailed, Thai investors welcomed to invest in Uganda.
Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Uganda to Thailand was impressed with BOI Fair 2011 and prepared to encourage Uganda's businessmen to visit the event as well as inviting Thai investors to invest in Uganda after finding Thai investments' value remained low probably due to some language barriers. He also convinced that the government of Uganda strongly welcomed Thai investors.
Mr. James Mulwana, Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Uganda to Thailand, said after visiting BOI Fair 2011 under the theme: Going green for the future at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani that he was impressed with the international exposure featured by the fair. Thai people were given knowledge regarding new innovations. He would bring the knowledge to invite businessmen in Uganda to visit BOI Fair 2011.
Regarding investment from Thailand to Uganda, he said, the value remained small given that many Thai investors viewed Uganda was a small country. In fact, they were unaware that Uganda had a lot of business opportunities and investments from Thailand, especially in the agricultural sector such as cotton and tobacco. The government of Uganda has supported foreign investors to invest in Uganda and fully provided investment privileges.
“In Uganda, many Thai investors are still SMEs, unlike those from the United Kingdom, China, and the United States of America. They have invested in several millions of Baht. A major barrier may be about languages; therefore not many Thai investments going to Uganda. For those interested in investing in Uganda, the government is very open to give its full support,” he said.
The Republic of Uganda is a crucial economic gateway for the countries in Africa, a passage to export products to countries nearby such as Kenya, Sudan, Congo, Rwanda, and Tanzania, for example. Those countries are new economies that BOI is encouraging Thai investors to invest. BOI already conduct activities to help Thai investors analyze business opportunities, rules and regulations to invest in the African countries and held business matching sessions between the two countries' leading businessmen, especially those in agriculture, food, and construction materials sectors, under which Thai investors held potentials.
