Come and experience a magical performance of ‘Peter and the Wolf’, Sergei Prokofiev’s most frequent performed musical and a world famous Symphonic Fairy Tale for Children.
Composed in 1936, this fantastical piece is designed to introduce children to the instruments of the orchestra.
All the characters in the story are conjured up by different musical instruments: the bird by the flute, the duck by the oboe, the cat by the clarinet, Grandpa by the bassoon, the wolf by the horns, the hunters by the wind section - along with their gunshots by the timpani, and our story’s hero, Peter, by the strings.
Peter and the Wolf is a fable about the freedom and innocence of childhood. Eager for adventure, Peter leaves his house and goes out into the wide green meadow. His friends, the bird and the duck, are playing, while the cat slinks around hungrily. Grandpa warns Peter that the meadow can be a dangerous place..... What if a wolf should come out of the forest? What then?!! Kids will be on the edge of their seats as Grandpa is proved right and Prokofiev's masterpiece comes to life....
